Review of Guys and Dolls (1955) by Ali S — 16 May 2012
I always feel like there's something wrong with me when I don't enjoy a beloved classic. And I do have a soft spot for musicals. But Guys and Dolls didn't do very much for me. I finished the movie filled with disappointment.
It was very cool to see Brando and Sinatra in their younger years. The acting wasn't terrible by any means but the dialogue sure was. The chemistry between the actors was not believable. And the songs were easily forgettable. The only one I recognized was Luck Be A Lady.
So, unless you have a compulsion to watch every movie ever made (like me), I'd give this one a pass.
