Review of Halloween (2018) by Robert B — 18 Oct 2018
So much potential, so little payoff. The possibilities were endless but in the end, Michael Myers is no longer the mysterious, raging psychopath of John Carpenter's imagination 40 years ago. Instead he is now merely a vehicle to feature Jamie Lee Curtis as a modern-day crusty, kooky, grandmother hell-bent on revenge.
The plodding plot completely lacks suspense and creativity and never develops into the edge of your seat horror flick that Carpenter delivered to audiences once upon a time. Not to mention (spoiler alert), Halloween (2018) is simply the latest in an endless string of weak Hollywood movies that can't seem to come up with an escape situation that doesn't include a prisoner transport bus.
So tired. So cliche. Such lazy writing. In the end, "lazy" aptly describes Hollywood (2018). Fans of the original Halloween deserve much better. Too bad Michael Myers didn't slash this film until it ended on the editing room floor.
That's where it deserved to be.
