Review of Halloween (2018) by Sean C — 27 Oct 2018
This is worth seeing in theaters for shits. But just for shits.
It tries, and some parts are interesting. It also changes up things stylistically with camera angles if you appreciate creative cinematography.
But it has flat characters (as in you dont give a shit about anyone except Jamie Lee). If the 3 female protagonists were more developed and more time was spent focusing on them, I think this movie would have been sick.
The movie doesnt live up to the premise.
Theres a scene where one character actually says "i mean, 5 people murdered, thats not that big of a deal. There are worse things nowadays compared to todays standards." And I agree. Trying to make this a sequel to the OG just seemed overkill. Why does Jamie Lee act nutso and claim to know so much about Michael if we're supposed to discount all the other movies? One night of murder changed her that much and gave her all that knowledge and subsequent paranoia? I dont think that made sense.
It had too many horror cliches and that surprised me and disappointed me. There were easter eggs, but that didnt matter to me because the more important stuff was missing.
You never get to fully understand many of the questions pitched at the beginning of the movie and in the trailers.
If you like really scary movies (the kind usually from film festivals snd not the box office) you wont be scared at all. I wasn't.
