Review of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) by Chad G — 06 Jan 2014
The fifth installment of this epic franchise is nothing but a swift collection of scenes taken out of the book and portrayed on the screen . Except the climax it has no emotional binding throughout the length . Despite the brilliant world that has been set up this film is a massive letdown just as the book was a letdown. The dementors which were so good in the third chapter are conceptually wrong this time around. I mean why would they change things that have already being beautifully set up in the franchise. Yes there were some close moments and a brilliant performance from Gary Oldman and Daniel Radcliffe but that is not enough in a movie like this. Some of the CGI was ordinary . The highlight of the movie was however the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort. That was brilliantly done. Alan Rickman also brings in an comical side to his character which by now is turning out to be one of the finest characters in the series. The disappointment is they have wasted such a good cast which would otherwise have been a brilliant film .
Harry Potter is clearly showing that directorial changes within a franchise is not a very good idea. Lets hope David Yates who is the new head now tighten up his socks and better produce some good movies.
