Unsettling and kinda gross. Elements that would normally give many horror films a boost, but in Hatching they only help it so far before it starts to stagnate.
Why? Because instead of focusing on the horror angle, the plot explores other story lines that don't give much punch to the rest of the film.
Either we see what's going on with the creature or we see the constant jabs and hints at mothers who are more interested in social media than their children and Hatching never makes a concise case for either argument.
It wasn't too bad, but there's nothing about it that leaves a lasting impression.
