The movie which leaves it viewer to decide what happened is always confusing. Here too the viewer is left to decide for him or her self whether Papa B. cheated Jamie by never removing the birthmark, or if much of what transpired was the product of Jamie's imagination.
Again in the climax Jamie experiences an emotionally powerful moment with his father ,whether this is a memory or a near-death experience is left unclear. Again the hero dies in the end. Why does not the good survive and kill the bad? Again viewer is left with question.
Yes the movie can be interpreted spiritually that if you go with the devil you will always end up dead.
