Review of Hearts Beat Loud (2018) by Drew B — 14 Jun 2018
So, I now can ding one critic off the list of people who know anything about film: Peter Sobczynski of efilmcritic. He hated "Hearts Beat Loud", the loveliest movie I've seen in quite some time.
It has heart and soul. Most importantly, the music is great ... a most difficult feat but utterly necessary for a film about a band. In this case, it's a father and daughter and their band is We're Not A Band.
We watch a father/daughter "jam sesh" turn into great songs. The daughter, played by Kersey Clemons in a breakout role (for both her voice and acting), is almost ready to leave for med school and the father is hanging on for dear life.
The result is funny, touching, and rockin'.
