Review of Heavenly Sword (2014) by Pierluigi F — 02 Sep 2014
I thought it was a great idea to make an animated video game movie based on the video game with the same graphics, and have the same actress from the video game to play as Nariko again. But I was very disappointed in this.
To be fair, I didn't played the game, I only played the demo, so I know a little experience from it. The graphics in the movie are not smooth like the game, some of them are pretty good, But most of them look cheap to me.
I swear, like 95% of the writing is just exposition, some of them were laughable too, and it didn't get a chance to introduce the characters barely and made me think that they're just stock characters.
The acting is inconsistent, the only actor that was trying to make this a good movie is Nolan North. He apparently want this movie to work because he played three characters in the movie, so at least he's trying.
Anna Torv who plays Nariko is surprisingly inconsistent, there are times where it's fine, then there are scenes where I think she didn't use the right emotion for the scenes. There was too much plot to the point that it really needs to take a breather.
It's a predictable video game movie that fans of Heavenly Sword should not see, even if it has the same graphics, but I'll admit that at least there was a bit of effort into it, but all the effort was wasted.
