Review of Hell and Back Again (2011) by Chris X M — 22 Feb 2012
This movie was truly phenomenally done. Danfung Dennis is incredibly talented in how he captured the deeply rooted emotional ties between war and home and the way he filmed the action in Afghanistan between the 3 opposing forces.
I didn't feel manipulated while watching it and that's what I loved most! Often, at least for me, war movies cause emotional confusion and more blame arises than understanding. However, I felt like Dennis didn't need to use any Hollywood tricks for popular demand due to his talent with photography and the compilation of this film.
He gets it, definitely deserves an Oscar. Thank you, Dennis you're the tits.
