Review of Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) by Robby K — 18 Jan 2017
It would be so easy for Sally Field to go the Robert De Niro route and just start mailing in all of her performances, but instead at the age of 69 she continues to find new things to do and she does them well.
This film doesn't work unless she really commits to the role. Regardless of whether the directing is good (It is), or the other performances impress (They do). It all rests on the shoulders of one of the greatest actresses of all time, and she bumbles and awkwardly glances her way to a near perfect portrayal of a shy elderly woman who for some reason just wants to be with a guy who's much, much younger than her.
And you just can't help but root for her the entire time.
