Review of Hereditary (2018) by Gavin J — 17 Jun 2018
This one is definitely in the 'weird' category. If you liked Rosemary's Baby, you may like this strange and uneven family horror movie. When this movie shines best, it is in the excellent use of surprise, silence, and darkness. At points in the movie I could hear a pin drop and then near silent gasps from audience members around me. See it in a theatre with excellent speakers, as they have very quite things going on in the background that you swear are happening in the theatre itself.
Where this movie bombs is in the finish, as it spirals out of control into complete unbelievable land, along the lines of Rosemary's Baby.
The acting for the most part is very good, with very realistic emotions and reactions to events. Ultimately left the movie scratching my head and completely confused about what I just watched though.
