Review of High and Low (1963) by Denise C — 27 Jun 2008
Kurosawa has a way of taking an interesting premise and dragging it out so that it's not interesting anymore (that's why Drunken Angel, at 98 min, is still my favorite of all his films). The second half of this movie is just arduous and uninteresting, and it fails to deliver compelling moral themes worth the trouble.
Thematically, compared to his other works, this one's quite weak.
