Review of High-Rise (2015) by Stuart K — 21 Mar 2016
I loved the book, and if you haven't read, I'd recommend reading it over seeing this. That said, this isn't a bad film, it just...kind of drags. Firstly, the visuals are striking, amazing, just brilliant. Like a pretentious advert for paint, or a clothing line, or even a music video. Secondly, it's quite a faithful adaptation, which in some ways leads to it's downfalls. But the main issue with this film is the repetitiveness. Initially the chaos is a welcomed sight, one that is comedic, insane, and horrific. But as the time ticks on it becomes less pungent and becomes rather, stale. There's enough here to keep you watching, but there's also moments you'll be checking for the time. Either way, worth checking out.
"IT'S MY PAINT!".
