Review of Hillbilly Elegy (2020) by Ebony1 — 20 Jan 2021
I really enjoyed this movie. I’ve watched it three times! Once was while I was alone so I could have a good cry. The things I disliked was there wasn’t very much backstory on JD and his sisters relationships with each actor and while you could tell there was supposed to be a strong bond between the siblings I felt like it could’ve just shown more history.
More history of the entire story would be so interesting. This story seems like it has many nooks and crannies that could have been explored, however this is Hollywood and it’s for profit so they’re only interested in a short story/history, big scene, “fixing” things and then, something to learn.
A lesson. This could’ve done better in some areas but overall I suggest it to people and like I said, I’ve watched it three times and each time I notice something different and I get all in my feels.
Maybe a part 2? Maybe a series? Loved Mamaw. Amy Adams was amazing. Young JD seemed to have gotten the nail on the head. AND WOW!!! I didn’t realize how many people would use words like “smarmy”, “woe is me”, “shameless Oscar bait” when describing this movie.
I feel like people hate what they may never have or experience or people hate because they have suffered as well. No one’s story is more or less important than this one. We all have experienced totally different scenarios.
We may even have siblings, parents and friends that experienced the same thing at the same time but your thoughts and memories aren’t going to be the same. But neither would be wrong. I just don’t understand bashing someone’s heartfelt story telling.
.. LIFE TELLING, makes anyone feel good. We should try to lift each other up.
