Review of Hustle & Flow (2005) by Michael M — 11 Sep 2013
I saw this a couple times when it came out and it really stuck out more than I thought it would. I got it for a steal at the store recently and watched it for the first time in like 8 years. It was just as powerful as ever.
Full of color and characters that we really end up loving in the end. It has enough seriousness that you believe in the characters by the end and want them to achieve their goals. It shows the struggle of a guy like DJay and his stable and how he strives to achieve his goals while living in the hood where he does.
John Singleton does it again with this one, and props to Terrence Howard showing he has what it takes to do some bigger roles and proving lots of people wrong in the film industry.
