Review of I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale (2009) by Miss. B — 16 Dec 2010
Who's that Guy? It's Fredo (from the Godfather)! What's his name? You won't know it, but you'll recognize him. He was the guy who only made 5 movies throughout the 70's -- all of which were nominated for Best Picture Academy Awards. He never played a lead role, but always a supporting role - but you recognized him. He was a tour-de-force on the screen - and his name was John Cazale.
This is a small documentary that highlights the outstanding and short career of John Cazale, with reflections from his co-stars, directors, and producers. Cazale was a talent that was taken too young from cancer, yet his work in film holds up to this day.
If you're a movie buff, and enjoy getting behind the scenes about that character actor you know - but not really, this is a film for you. This is a great tribute to a great actor.
The only drawback to this film is that its only 40 minutes, despite Netflix saying its an hour and 40 minutes. While its short, I'm not sure if a longer length would have done anything for it.
It's too bad Cazale didnt have the chance to make more films. He would have been one of the greatest actors of his generation - along side of Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, and Robert DeNiro. Well done.
