It hits hard on the pretentious art drama notes..maybe too hard, but thatâ(TM)s a somewhat minor criticism. The majority is exquisite, meticulous and beautiful filmmaking. Barry Jenkins has a way with capturing monologues and very subtle and simple character scenes that feel more fresh than other films within this realm.
