Review of Impromptu (1991) by Alexa L — 24 Dec 2007
This movie's within my top 5 of all time. The entire cast -- which in addition to a very young Hugh Grant, includes Judy Davis, Julian Sands, Mandy Patinkin, and Emma Thompson-- is truly fantastic.
Grant in particular is worth watching, as this movie demonstrates he can actually act when not type-cast as the diffident Englishman. He embodies the concepts of "meek" and "prim".
Thompson as well is great, with perfect comic timing. For those of you who think they don't like period movies or costume dramas, give this a try anyway; it's much funnier and sexier than you would think was possible!
