Review of Incredibles 2 (2018) by Chad G — 07 Sep 2018
It's been a long time since I've seen a Pixar movie in theaters; I usually don't bother seeing them. But this one was great! Incredibles 2 is well-paced and fun with obviously better animation than the first.
I liked that they started out where we last saw the Incredibles and give a brief review of sorts on what was going on in the first movie. The commentary on television and news as media which tell people what to think was very interesting, I never expected it to go there.
Also, the action is fantastic and I think that it holds up in the midst of all the superhero movies out right now. And there was that comment about Philodendrons that won me over as a plant biologist.
Ok, I tend to be picky with Pixar and there were things I noticed that I might not have picked up on if I were one of the kids in that theater. First is all the repeat jokes that they stretch too thin from the first movie.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but that's not a big issue, kids seemed to love them anyway. Second is lots and lots of cliches, as well as stereotypical characters. It really bothered me that they couldn't have more unique characters here; but I also have to acknowledge that these are pre-established characters from the first movie who were the same way there as well.
Perhaps this is just my main critique of the franchise as a whole. Third, it's predictable, but I'm not getting into any spoilers. Please don't be discouraged by those three thoughts, the movie is absolutely worth it and I'm sure that kids will love this movie! Is it an improvement over the first? You'll just have to go and see it for yourself!
