Review of Interstellar (2014) by James H — 23 Dec 2015
I missed this movie when it came out and stumbled upon it over the holidays. I was completely surprised by how much it pulled me into its story both from a personal and historical perspective. I am an engineer by training, so I am very picky about the science in science fiction movies, and this movie does an excellent job of representing the awe and impact of space and time travel on human beings.
It's fun to watch and it doesn't make any major mistakes that distract from the universe it creates. I enjoyed the personal stories and conflicts and there was a 15-minute sequence of scenes that builds and maintains suspense so masterfully I was calling out verbally just watching at home - I can only imagine what it would have been like in a theatre.
I'm not sure how it will hold up on subsequent viewings, but my first 3 hours (yes it is long) were extremely entertaining. In my opinion, this movie is so well written, directed, and acted that it can act as a litmus test for detecting critics who I no longer need to read.
