Review of Ishqiya (2010) by Smarojit C — 07 May 2010
What an achievement! Abhishek Chaubey, Vishal Bharadwaj's protegee takes his master's achievements to a new level. "Ishqiya" is fantastic from the word go! A brilliant screenplay, excellent characterization and a superb background score is what works for the film. Naseeruddin Shah is phenomenal in his portrayal of Khalujan, while Arshad Warsi's portrayal of Babban is authentic. A special mention for newcomer Salman Shahid, who is bang on as Mushtaq, but the scene stealer is undoubtedly Vidya Balan. She proves her brilliance yet again after "Parineeta", "Guru" and "Paa" and walks off with the maximum accolades.
"Ishqiya" is a film for lovers of cinema with a difference. Watch out for the comical undertones and Rahet Fateh Ali Khan's dil to baccha hai jee.
We wish for more such films from Mr. Bharadwaj!!
