Review of It (2017) by Dave S — 27 Jul 2018
Meh. We expected a more solid storyline. It was too laughable in its "the 70's called and they want their tacky paranormal genre back without the John Wayne Gacy meets Bozo meets Willy Wonka within a plot of JUMP scares".
In doing so, ANY ridiculous thing was possible and/or REPETITIVE. Serial killers are scary enough without assigning them evil superpowers, shape-shifting and immortality. Consequently, Pennywise becomes cartoonish and strangely silly.
At many points, the story faltered and dialogue was pedestrian or felt forced. Casting was weak, but most of the young actors did okay with what they were given...however, with intensive direction could've been much stronger.
The Stephen King film adaptation 'Stand by Me' is an example of rich dialogue, while casting and direction of its youthful actors by Rob Reiner, was excellent.
