Review of It Came from Outer Space (1953) by Art S — 04 Mar 2013
Like an 80 minute episode of The Twilight Zone (and from a story/script by Ray Bradbury), It Came From Outer Space does a nice job of making some social psychological points with a science fiction metaphor.
This was apparently an early 3-D picture but the use of that technology must have been subtle because I didn't find things too gimmicky (only the aliens' own viewpoint involves a sort of bubble on the lens).
Given the recent meteor impact in Russia, this movie suggests (via its similar occurrence) that we should be careful we know who our friends and neighbors really are (but, in fact, if we are that suspicious, the enemy may actually be us).
