Review of It Follows (2015) by Heena R — 23 Oct 2018
So without much further ado,.
I present to you "It Follows" directed by David Robert Mitchell.
Now here's the actual plot of the movie:
"After carefree teenager Jay (Maika Monroe) sleeps with her new boyfriend, Hugh (Jake Weary), for the first time, she learns that she is the latest recipient of a fatal curse that is passed from victim to victim via sexual intercourse.".
Which to me sounded like the perfect ad campaign for Abstinence if it was 2 hours long.
The movie in itself boasts a great setting of the later 80's and a slight sense of macabre. I've found many reviewers of this movie have said that they loved the soundtrack and the atmosphere of it, which to me was also great, but resounded a little bit too familiar with the one in Stranger Things. The sense of suspense that you look for in a horror movie, the gut wrenching cliffhangers of when something would happen, is sadly just as predictable in this movie as any other, and that's why it loses brownie points in the element of surprise.
The character buildup throughout the movie seems a bit too scattered, which basically means that the movie's MC as well as her fellow actors seem a little disconnected, and the random additions of newer characters during the movie, which could have been eased in a little more, artfully?
Now coming to the spooks, which is the main reason you would watch a horror flick! The spooks are great. They are easy to anticipate which builds the suspense but kills the adrenaline, so you got one of the other, but for the better. However, what I especially loved in the spooks was how masterfully disturbing they are; the shock value of the spooks is amazing, which had me extremely pleased.
All in all, there are several holes in the plot points, but this is about I can fit in my feed, if you want a more detailed review I'll be happeh to do so!
How I rate this movie (out of ten): 6.5 Pumpkins!
There were several points in the movie which literally made me laugh out loud as well, which is kind of something unexpected out of a horror movie?
