Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Benjamin B — 14 Mar 2009
As a film, it was rather weak. It plays with such strong ideas, yet it never truly builds to anything - it's very tedious and never fully realized. Many of the scenes failed to have a complete arch because they ended too soon or began too late.
For this reason, I was never invested in any aspect of this story. The only redeeming quality is an exceptional core performance by Scott-Thomas who inhabits this woman's depth and pain. Otherwise, this film was flat and uninspired - poorly directed and without style (the writing is to blame as well for giving us a story with barely a skeleton).
