Review of Jeepers Creepers (1939) by Bob B — 23 Jan 2019
Having seen this a long time before in my younger days, I figured I'd crack out the dual pack with it and its sequel and give them a whirl before I remember how terrible a person the director is.
Jeepers Creepers has some solid Ideas, and great shots that are kind of dragged down by whiny characters, and jumbled plot of running around between three locations. Said plot sees a brother-sister duo heading home for some reason or another, getting stalked by a weird giant truck, Dual style. After a few encounters, the siblings see the driver dump a body into a pipe and go investigate only to make a gruesome discovery. Honestly, I am not a huge fan of the beginning of this movie. Listening to the two actors bicker for a while, then enter the movie Dual, then leave it and bicker again was grating on my nerves. I do appreciate the sibling dynamic over using a couple or group of teens though. Once the gruesome discovery is made, the movie goes into overdrive, entering a lite weirdness that I enjoyed for the most part. I just can't rate a movie a lot higher when it didn't matter to me who the killer killed. They felt like interchangeable and unlikable people.
Still, Jeeps Creeps is fun for what it is. Doesn't wear out is welcome either in run time. Which makes dealing with the two main characters I don't like a lot easier. I'd recommend it for a nice view into earlier 2000's horror.
