Review of Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003) by Bob B — 27 Jan 2019
So, after somewhat enjoying the first film, but having issues with the characters and overall pacing of it, I found I liked the sequel just as much but for different reasons. It's like they took the things I disliked from the original changed them, but then added other crap that I disliked. So, the films end up in the same quality bracket for me.
Unlike the first, JP2 has a huge cast of bus riding sports fellas. I have forgotten what sport they were winners at, I am assuming football, maybe Basketball. Anyways, pretty much everyone on the bus is an ass, and I couldn't give two craps about them. On the other hand, the movie does start with Ray Wise and his two sons doing some choring, until the Creeper takes his young son away. His eldest and Wise himself than start to chase the creature down for revenge. For me, that's the start of the issues, two stories that don't need to go together, and I liked the Ray Wise story better. Sadly the next 50 minutes are the guys on the bus getting eaten, some in fun fashion, all the while having bro offs.
"Dude, do you even Bro?, "What the F Bro, Sports are my life, you don't know sports" and of course my favorite "Coach only played me like 12 minutes, I deserve better than these other, bros, bro.".
The whole time kind of felt like torture, and that the creeper was doing the world a solid as he picked these dinks off.
After all that though, Ray Wise comes back and some left over bus bros, and him go on a harpoon shooting, off-roading, monster slaying hunt of vengeance. Honestly, it's a lot of fun. In fact, it made me almost forget how much I hated all the other characters,. Almost.
So, the movie evened itself off in the end. Imagine if they cut most of the bus stuff out, and dropped 30 mins of the film. 70 minutes of Ray Wise going on a revenge mission against an unkillable monster. Sign me up!
