Review of Jezebel (1938) by Bill M — 02 Jul 2009
In an attempt to steal some thunder from MGM's yet-to-be-released "Gone with the Wind", Warner Bros produced this lavish civil war period piece headlining would-be Scarlet O'Hara, Bette Davis.
She gives a confident performance as a saucy southern belle who tries to regain the love her beau, Henry Fonda, to the point of staying by his side when he has yellow fever. Max Steiner's music adds a welcome dimension to the melodrama.
