Review of Joe (2014) by Paul S — 17 Jun 2014
After trying to get through this mess, am amazed at its popularity. Every character is an indistinguishable stereotype of the good natured warm hearted working class yeoman. And everyone did the same part really well. and Nicolas.
Cage does a great job of playing the gruff but warm do-it-yourself kind of guy. I was willing to buy it until an incongruous maniac shows up to shoot him in the shoulder with a high powered rifle. That would have been OK but the film loses all credulity when Joe drives himself home and digs out the bullet and before engaging in a some only slightly surly banter with a couple of good time girls who just happened to drop by. I can't spoil it any further because we turned of the television at this point. What a waste of good actors!
