Review of Journey's End (2017) by Toe J — 01 Dec 2018
Powerful and insightful as to what I can only imagine was a horrendous reality on the front line. There is nothing particularly patriotic here, no message of right or wrong to the origin of the war... it is purely about the reality of being on the front line and the toll it takes on the officers (and in part some of men/soldiers).
It tackles PTSD (or shell shock as it was then) and the questionable orders that are passed down from the chain of command. Do not expect a happy ending or some Hollywood moral tale... just grit, dirt, blood and tears.
Went into this film blind with no real expectation, and it's rocketed it's way into what I feel is one of the best takes on war I've seen. Can see it becoming a classic.
