Review of Joy (2015) by Rob R — 29 Sep 2016
Joy (2015).
Although it's not David O Russell's best film in recent years (The Fighter, Silver Lining's Playbook, American Hustle) it still packs a solid cinematic punch that resonates O'Russell's stellar directing style, but it's Jennifer Lawrence's strong and devoted performance that carries the film.
Lawrence's screen presence is brilliant and demanded as Joy Mangano, the real inventor and her journey of inventing a self-wringing mop in early 1990s New York. While balancing her dysfunctional family and generating a patent for her Miracle Mop, the film does offer a lot of memorable and entertaining moments, however, the plot and pacing is somewhat distorted and lacks rhythm. B.
