Review of Juan of the Dead (2011) by Tim M — 18 Aug 2013
The only reason Juan of the Dead gets any positive reviews is the fact that it is a Cuban movie, and life on Cuba isn't easy. So, you have to appreciate the efforts of filmmakers who decided to make a Cuban movie about zombies.
Not just any type of movie, but a horror comedy in the style of Shaun of the Dead. It's too bad that this movie sucks, and it fails at every point that makes a movie fun. Allegedly, there's also supposed to be some political satire thrown in there, but there really isn't.
The main characters are assholes, and act pretty much like homophobes with no regard for human life, as they kill of zombies and call them sodomites, but they also kill bystanders with no remorse, and one of them even goes out of his way to slash a guy who owes him money.
A bullshit movie whose hype was built around the fact that it's exotic, because it was filmed on Cuba. Don't waste your time.
