Review of Judge Dredd (1995) by John W — 14 Feb 2013
I would invite movie reviewers to watch this movie again. I give it an A++. From the start, you have to understand this film's genre. It's a campy, tounge-in-cheek, comic book fantasy. The story's creater is a comic book creator, John Wagner. Now that you understand what youre looking at, consider the performances - they are amazing! In fact, I didn't observe a bad performance in the whole movie. Stallone's Judge Dredd is beautifully exectued with an inhuman dedication to the law in a comic book hero way. Asante's performance is exciting, manic and forceful - things you come to expect from him from past roles. Schneider's comedic moments are beautifully executed yet smart enough to make you consider more elevated thoughts.
The film is visually stunning as well. The post Epoch world is interesting and frightening with cannabalistic moments with the legendary "angel family" again in a comic book way.
I loved this movie from start to finish and don't understand the reviews. They are flat out wrong. The movie and director didn't miss the target, the audience did.
