Where were the editors when you really needed them? It may be time to abandon the notion that a fine performance (Streep as Child) can float a flat script. This is difficult. Had the premise focused on Julia, it may have been fine.
Maybe lighthearted with little humor is simply not a genre I get. Let's move Lynch and Streep to a script worthy of their memorable banter, give thanks to Ephron for her cometic bent, and film a story with sharper content.
