It doesn't make any sense, they just picked up a random stranger that didn't cause any trouble and put him in a mental hospital? They didn't bother to check his identity from a fingerprint or something? The psychiatrist has to spend so much time and resources to find out who he really is.
..meanwhile, they hospitalize a patient when they don't even know his name. Good thing "prot" is a nice guy and actually ill because otherwise they would have a huge lawsuit and no movie.
