Review of Keep the Lights On (2012) by Nick A — 01 Mar 2013
Prepare to watch two hours of an unrealistic gay couple and the drug addiction that slowly dismantles a gay man's life and their future together. And I tell you this because my hope is that you don't go into the movie as I did, thinking that it was about a mature or adult gay relationship.
This is not that movie. This is a movie about addiction - and nothing else. And as a movie about addiction, it is only mediocre. The character development doesn't lead you to have any special insight into either men that would help you cheer him on in his battle with brain changing drugs or support his loser boyfriend with sticking with him this long to begin with.
There's not much to like about either character. And that is where the movie fails.
