Review of Kill List (2011) by Martin T — 16 Nov 2013
Yet another film that made plenty of "Best of 2011" lists and then didn't live up to the hype. "Kill List" is a strange one. A strange mix of "A Serbian Film" and "The Wicker Man", almost everything is masterfully executed, which makes the payoff all the more frustrating.
All the cast do an amazing job and the chemistry between the three leads comes across as very natural and believable, the atmosphere and mood are unsettling, the sporadic violence is what "Drive" failed tried and failed to do and the blending of genres is seamless.
The problem comes with the narrative. It probably requires a second watch but everything is far too ambiguous and the ending far too abrupt. Definitely needs to be seen at least once.
