Review of Kill List (2011) by Jarett B — 21 Jan 2012
10/10? I guess so. I really haven't digested "Kill List" yet and it's been weeks. Would I recommend it? Probably not, since i's too hard to sit through if your body contains any working nerves.
After saying that, I can easily say that I loved every minute of it. Yes, I make no sense. I not only witnessed a car wreck and couldn't turn away, but it was a beautifully haunting, twisted car wreck and I barely moved, breathed, or knew where I was at the time because I was so captivated. Take the unflinching violence of, say, the "Saw" franchise (just add great writing and direction), combine the unnerving pace and domestic violence of a Heneke film, and then take your own worse cultish/religious nightmare and that's the only way I can describe "Kill List.".
It's beautiful. Yet, don't count on leaving it behind after viewing. There are few films that I've lost sleep over (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Deep Red), and "Kill List" is one of them. It makes your nightmares look like a small girl selling Girl Guide cookies on a lovely sunny day.
