Review of Kill Your Idols (2004) by Crusader . — 04 Aug 2011
Interesting documentary about the beginning of the "No Wave" scene, which started in the early 70's and continued through the early 80's in New York City. Also connected the dots to 00's NYC bands continuing in that same tradition.
While a lot of the footage was super rough, it did add to the grittiness of the documentary but some of it was even too rough to use I thought. The film definitely did a good job of portraying the extreme lifestyle and innovations of the scene.
Something was off thoughâ"something seemed to be missing, Perhaps it was in the editing. Perhaps the fact that there were perhaps only a dozen of the "old guard" interviewed. I thought the graphics could have been handled better. I also felt that the piece was somewhat one-sidedâ"very critical of the music industry and even more critical of the up and coming bands that followed in the tradition they founded.
