Review of Lady Bird (2017) by Linda M — 23 Dec 2017
Given the strong reviews, I was expecting to be wowed, but this was just an okay film for me. I felt it was, essentially, some patched together scenes with some predictable characters, no engaging plot lines or emotional arc.
Quirky stories about teen angst are a dime a dozen and, unless a script has something new to tell me, I find it's just another reboot of the same old same old. I will say that Saoirse Ronan is always spectacular but this film did nothing to showcase her unique talent.
Good films are getting harder and harder to come by and I truly believe that in a stronger year with higher criteria, this film would have been considered just above average.
