Review of Last Life in the Universe (2003) by Lurple J — 18 Apr 2008
One of the most relaxing and wonderfully spirited films I have ever seen. given its main story revolves around a man obsessed with suicide and the theory that death is relaxing, and atop that, he's running from the yakuza.
the filmmaker takes such dark themes and plot points and converts them into a glorious picture about the true language of human rleationships, spreading a message that you don't have to speak the same language to understand what you feel about a person.
each shot, each sequence, and each new step into the plot is filmed with such a beautiful touch. there is not one moment through this entire movie that I felt bored and restless. its mellow, and it takes its time, but its a great experience.
