Review of Lawless (2012) by Nate A — 23 May 2013
I was a little let down by this. I expected a bit more from John Hillcoat and team given his track record. As it is, this is still an ok gangster picture with a little Appalachian flavor and some good performances (except for Pearce whose Southern dandy is hammy to the point of parody). Despite top billing with the rest of the cast, Oldman is only in this for about 5 minutes.
As long as you go in expecting a by the numbers gangster picture and not a genre bending depiction of the Prohibition Era South, you'll still probably enjoy this.
