Review of License to Wed (2007) by Rachael W — 06 Nov 2013
I was willing to overlook the savage reviews and experience what I thought was going to be a harmless romantic comedy, after all critics get cynical over this stuff anyway. Unfortunately, the critics are right and wow was I ill-prepared for the unpleasantness and morose feeling that would accompany my viewing.
The last thing in the world that I expected was to see what is essentially a Lars Von Trier film masquerading as a mainstream Hollywood comedy. Mandy Moore and John Krasinski encounter the Robin Williams from Insomnia as he emotionally destroys and manipulates them through a series of psychologically abusive torments.
I wasn't laughing because the mental soundtrack this inspired was dark and eerie. I felt like taking a shower the moment it ended.
