This shouldve been a slam dunk for Pixar but sadly the idea is tarnished by the noticeable lack of Tim Allen and a weak screenplay that lacks any sense of fun by the space rangers concept being taken far too seriously.
Gone is the tongue in cheek throwback to the humour of children's Saturday morning flash Gordon inspired serials and instead welcome the uninspired woke-ness of the 2020's writing team and from the start of the movie get an emasculation of the titular character who is quickly overshadowed by his overpowered lesbian black Mary Sue counterpart. Things do not improve and it just feels hollow and shows to be a complete waste of the fantastic original source material. Just shows how awful the state of play is in woke Hollywood.
