Review of Lilo & Stitch (2002) by John R — 04 Jul 2014
For my first real review I decided to review my favorite childrens movie.
Lilo and Stitch.
Lilo and Stitch is about a girl who is being raise by her sister in Hawaii. When experiment 626 (or Stitch) escapes from an alien jail, he crash lands on Hawaii. Lilo sees his ship crash and thinks it is a falling star so she makes a wish that she can make a friend. Nani (Lilo's sister) overhears this wish and decides to take her to get a pet dog. Meanwhile Stitch is run over by a car and taken to the dog shelter, being mistaken for a dog. Lilo goes to adopt a dog and sees stitch and immediately falls in love. Stitch allows her to buy him seeing this as an opportunity to use Lilo as a shield from the aliens Jumba (Stitch's creator) and Pleakley, who are trying to capture Stitch and bring him back to jail.
First of all, the story of Lilo and Stitch is a very unique and creative story for Disney to do. Also the family problems between Nani and Lilo are extremely realistic and the way they fight is the way I see my sisters fighting (except my sisters fight with much more inappropriate language). The character development of Stitch is great to see. He goes from being misbehaved to understanding the feeling of family love, trust, and happiness. Since this film is realistic with the problems, it can also be emotional. When Lilo reveals her parents died in a car crash you can feel the pain Lilo feels. Also Lilo and Nani have real human emotions, they feel happy, they feel mad, they feel depressed. Their characters are real people!
The animations in this movie are not the best that Disney has done but they are far from their worst. Animation is not a problem for Disney.
Overall Lilo and Stitch is an edgy, emotional, funny, charming, clever, and creative Disney movie. There is great character voices so you really can feel the characters emotions, and there is a great story regarding family issues. Lilo and Stitch takes a very deep and depressing subject and is able to throw in an abundance of laughs and entertainment throughout.
