When it comes to genres that are always winners when people get them right, heist movies are right up there. There's something about putting characters you can root for in a situation where they're (even somewhat) justified in stealing something, coupled with the twists and turns that often accompany said stealing, that just makes the whole thing wonderfully satisfying to watch.

And this film has that charm in spades, heightened by the always-interesting direction from the king of the modern heist movie, Steven Soderbergh. Channing Tatum doesn't have to do much, which I think is for the best, although he doesn't give you enough clues that he could be the mastermind of what turns out to be a very intricate plot (although a portion of my incredulity may be put down to general 'ain't they dumb' racism towards people from the southern states of America).

Adam Driver doesn't do a lot either, but it works because he's Adam Driver and I love Adam Driver. And there's plenty of good people who pop up in smaller roles to always make you feel like you're in good hands.

Now, from reading the synopsis on Wikipedia I found out things I didn't know from watching it, which says that the plot isn't all perfectly explained for an idiot like me. But this biggest complaint I have is that it made me think of the Oceans films quite a lot, which is a shame because it's not as slick, zippy, or just as good as 11 or 13.

But overall, as long as you can judge it on its own merits, it's a well executed heist film, which means it's well worth a watch. Also, this film is notable for casting in prominent roles both a terrible actor who's very good at doing accents (Seth MacFarlane) and a very good actor who's absolutely terrible at doing accents (Daniel Craig).
