Review of Logan Lucky (2017) by Rajesh M — 12 Dec 2017
A most welcome return of Steven Soderbergh to the Director's seat, Logan Lucky is an easy-going, impressively funny and sharply smart heist movie, which will surprise you with its formidable performances, compelling story and moments of pure, quality fun. Pleasantly chaotic and with pace shifting through several gears, this is a one the surprises of 2017.
Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) and his brother Clyde (Adam Driver) are two brothers known to be the local town losers. When Jimmy gets fired from his job he decides to make a heist which nobody believes could be successful. He teams up with his brother, sister and the inmate Joe Bang ( Daniel Craig) in order to rob the tresor of the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race. Nothing in the story is or ordinary and you will be pleasantly surprised by how it develops. Often you may also smile at some of the funny swings or sharp, dark comedic moments which blend wonderfully in an overall easy-going plot. In addition to this, Steven Soderbergh has managed to squeeze the best out of Channing Tatum and to show Daniel Craig in a light nobody has expected. Speaking of the former, we should say that once again Tatum proves that he is not only a cool, sex-symbol actor, but also someone who can deliver a variety of complex roles. Logan Lucky is certainly one of these examples.
As a whole, in an year of multiple Hollywood disappointments, Logan Lucky is one the independent deliveries which will delight you and keep in you the faith the quality film-making is still possible. A highly recommended movie!
