Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by Paul D — 06 Jun 2016
Paul Giamatti goes a little too far in nearly every scene he's in. Cusack is controlled and unhinged at the same time. Dano is genius. The aesthetic in the younger-Wilson storyline is an achievement unto itself.
Feels significantly more personal than the typical musical biopic. The emotions are earned with careful psychological characterization. Elizabeth Banks is essentially the audience. Not being the biggest fan of the Beach Boys (but not disliking them either), the talents all together make this work.
Also, best font work I've seen in a while.
