Review of Mad Max 2 (1981) by Emile H — 28 May 2017
From the first minute up to its increasing climax, Mad Max 2 pulls all the stops on its audiences. George Miller knows how to direct a good screenplay which ramps up with each rep while Mel Gibson manages to stay stoic rather than stiff as the road warrior.
Scene by scene, the film draws a perspective where the proportions - especially on the ridiculous looking villains - are larger than life, yet the wider view at the environment only heightens how helpless the situation feels despite the success.
As over-the-top as it is, the Mad Max series has had an impact on action cinema, and this film is the definitive blueprint of how making a film can be equally loud and distinctive.
