Review of Manchester by the Sea (2016) by Kevin B — 20 Dec 2017
If I had to use just one word to review this movie in order to help others determine whether or not this movie is worth using up two hours of their recreational time--I'd choose the word pointless. Why do we watch movies? To be entertained, relax, laugh, cry, relate, escape, etc.
I expect more from a movie than to simply hold my interest. Just keeping an audience's interest through to the end isn't enough--if it were then we would simply stop a movie we find interesting in the middle and say, "Okay, that was interesting, I've been entertained for an hour." This movie, which is over two hours in length did just that--stopped about two-thirds of the way into the movie.
Really, It shouldn't have been a "movie" it should have been a miniseries or something and fleshed out the story. I'm not talking about leaving the audience to draw their own conclusions, which often irks viewers, this truly was an INCOMPLETE story not worth having wasted my time on. It was, truly, pointless as presented.
